Music at Ivy Hill

Organ by Diane O'Neill
Music is very much a part of the spirit of Ivy Hill. We host evenings of live music performed by local artists for our video show "Music at Ivy Hill". Our own musical instruments include a piano, an organ, two violins, a banjo, and the ubiquitous recorder. Most prominent are the Appalachian dulcimers made by Mr. Keith Young of Annandale, Virginia.

The background music for all of our video programs is played by the Mill Run Dulcimer Band which Mr. Young founded. The members of the band are all suburbanites who share a love of traditional country and mountain music. Members of the band play more than a dozen instruments among them but the primary instrument is the dulcimer with its sweet sound. The band plays a mix of old time, traditional and sentimental tunes and keeps alive the musical tradition brought by early settlers to the Appalachian Mountains.

"The pleasure got from...music, the pleasure got from discussing the good points in the conduct of others, the pleasure of having many wise friends is profitable."
